The Russian art always sensitively responded to the events of national history. The works of masters of arts and crafts are not exception. Dedicated to the anniversary of the Great Victory the exhibition "Defenders of the Fatherland" is intended to show how the military history theme is reflected in the production of the famous handicrafts in Central Russia - Mstera, Palekh, Kholui and Fedoskina where throughout the XX century the lacquer miniature successfully and originally developed.

The exhibition presents the most outstanding works of miniature lacquer painting in the collection of arts and crafts and folk art of Russia, which holds the State Museum and Exhibition Centre "ROSIZO". For a project in memory of the Great Patriotic War there were selected more than 60 exhibits - caskets and cases decorated with murals depicting scenes of epic battles and real military victories. Among their heroes and generals are Alexander Nevsky and Georgy Zhukov, soldiers from the "Song", and the characters of the Old Russian epic - tales about heroes like Ilya Muromets.

Scenes of the world life, to which are dedicated many lacquer painting products are closely related to the theme of the Fatherland.

The exhibition items of different factories gathered together without separation by local schools, it allows the viewer understanding the nuances of an individual manner, noting similarities and differences in style. The exhibition covered a small section of the history of "Russian paints" - from the 1970s to the 1990s. However, the products of this later period give an idea about the features of each of the art centers.
