Society and book culture: The International Children’s Book Day

The birth of the famous fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen (April 2) at the initiative of the International Council for Children’s Book (IBBY) in many countries of the world is celebrated as the International Children’s Book Day.

Traditionally, one of the countries – members of the IBBY (today IBBY includes 73 countries), is sponsoring the holiday and preparing the greeting to all children of the world. This is an important tradition – the right to sponsor is provided on competitive basis by the decision of the Board IBBY.

In 2015, the sponsor of the International Children's Book Day is the National Section of the United Arab Emirates (UAEBBY). The honor right to appeal to the children of the world got the best children's writer of the country and the best children's book illustrator - Marwa Obaid Rashid Al Aqroubi and Nasim Abaeian.
