Society and book culture: Russia got the right to host the International Congress on Children’s and Youth Book in 2020

Russian got the right to host the International Congress on Children’s and Youth Book in 2020.

Such a decision was adopted on March 30 ,2105 in Bologna at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Council on Children’s and Youth Book (IBBY).

The Congress under the auspices of IBBY is held every two years in different countries. It is attended by world writers, artist, librarians, critics, researchers.

This year's meeting of the Executive Committee IBBY, chaired by the President of IBBY Walley de Doncker (Belgium) was held in the framework of the International Children's Book Fair in Bologna, where the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, traditionally organizes the Russian exposition. After discussion and voting members of the Executive Committee (13 members from 12 countries) have chosen the venue for the Russian Congress on Books for Young People in 2020. Previous congresses were held in Denmark, England, Mexico. Congress on Books for Young People in 2016 will be held in New Zealand, and in 2018 - in Turkey.  

The International Council for Children’s and Youth Book has official status in UNESCO and UNICEF and was founded in 1953 in Zurich. Currently it includes 75 national sections, including Russian, which is headed by Ludmila Chizhova. The International Council once or twice a year awards G. H. Andersen award to the best authors and illustrators of children’s books.
