History of St. Petersburg: City Day’s celebration begins

The events dedicated to City Day  the Day of St. Petersburg  will begin on May 24 in St. Petersburg.

By creating its own recent history, St. Petersburg every year enriches the palette of cultural traditions. One of them are the high art concerts on Palace Square, marking the Day of the city.

This time, against the background of the majestic facade of the Winter Palace an elegant decoration will grow, inviting all guests to a magnificent palace ball.

On May 24, 2015, from 21.00 in the concert space of the Palace Square will sound the music of Rossini, Verdi, Gounod, Kalman, Lehar, Strauss and many other famous composers, performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the Mikhailovsky Theatre under the direction of Michael Tatarnikov.

Well-known soloists of opera theaters from around the world will take part in the "Classic at the Palace" show. Renowned baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky will perform arias from famous classical operettas. The constant soloist of the Vienna State Opera, the brilliant soprano Valentina Nafornitsa will perform for the guests of the evening.

The ballet dancers of Petersburg’s theaters will give the Palace Square ball a noble tone, which will be blended with modern rhythms of the «Bad Boys of Dance» show.
