International events: The 10th anniversary festival of Russian culture opened in Japan

A traditional Russian culture Festival opened on May 20, 2015 in the Japanese capital. The solemn opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin, President's Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi, and the Russian Ambassador to Japan Yevgeny Afanasyev.

The Festival of Russian Culture is held in Japan for the tenth consecutive year. This year, its program begins with a ballet "Esmeralda", performed by the troupe of the Moscow Musical Theater of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko, as well as the exhibition dedicated to the 160th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Russian Empire.

From June to December, in different parts of Japan will be held performances by famous Russian music groups and ensembles of Russian folk songs, will be open exhibitions of paintings, games and animated films.

The program of the Festival will be completed in December with the Christmas concert of the Chamber Orchestra of the Mikhailovsky Theater in Tokio.
