History and culture: The photo exhibition of unique documents “Gardeners” from the Central State Archive of Moscow in the park “Sokolniki”

The park "Sokolniki" hosts a photo exhibition of unique documents from the Central State Archive of the City of Moscow "Gardeners".

The exhibition presents a unique amateur and professional shots of late XIX - XX centuries, which were selected from hundreds of documents stored in the archive. The exhibition includes two thematic sections which tell about the history of the sesquicentennial of country life in Russia.

The heroes of the first part were not only such famous gardeners, as a writer Korney I. Chukovsky, People's Artist of the USSR Arkady Raikin, the writer Konstantin Simonov, USSR People's Artist, pianist Nikolai Arnoldovich Petrov, People's Artist of the USSR Irina K. Arkhipova, but also ordinary Soviet citizens.

Rare pictures of the second section will present country life of so-called "educated" part of the Russian society.

"Unique photographs, presented at the exhibition, are bright with documentary evidence, depicting country life from different eras. Viewers will see footage showing the birth and development of the traditions of this kind of relaxing at the end of the XIX century. There will also be presented with a photo taken during the second half of the last century - the heyday of the Soviet dacha construction", - said the director of the archive Jaroslav Onopenko.
