History and culture: The exhibition, dedicated to the educational activity of Metropolitan Innocent, in Khabarovsk

June 16, 2015 in the N. I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Regional Museum was opened an exhibition "Light of Truth carrying people… Irkutsk pages of the earthly life of St. Innocent".  

As part of the activities "Spiritually-educational project "The Way of St. Innocent "(2014-2017)" dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the birth and the 40th anniversary of the canonization of Metropolitan Innocent (Popov, Benjamin), the Irkutsk Regional Museum has prepared an exhibition "The light of truth carrying people…Irkutsk pages of the earthly life of St. Innocent". The exhibition project is devoted to missionary and educational activities St. Innocent (Popova-Benjamin), educator and apostle of America and Siberia.

Metropolitan Innocent (in the world - Ivan Popov Evseevich-Benjamin) (1797-1879) - the first Orthodox Bishop of Kamchatka, Yakutia and the Amur region and North America, an associate of the governor-general of Eastern Siberia Count Nikolai Muravyov-Amur, from January 5, 1868 . Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna. He went down in history as a talented missionary, preacher. He started his career in 1824 as a priest in Alaska, in 1834 he was transferred to the city of Archangel (now - Sitka) Leaving from the Far East, Metropolitan Innocent left behind a galaxy of talented missionaries who continued spread of Orthodoxy on the eastern borders of the country.

Visitors of the museum have the opportunity to get acquainted with documents and photographs not only from the funds of the Irkutsk Museum, but also from the State archive of the Irkutsk region, showing the history of the Irkutsk diocese and saints of Earth of Irkutsk - Innocent (Kulchytsky), Sophronia (Kristalevskogo), and others. To see the conditions in which The childhood of Ivan Popov, training in the Irkutsk Theological Seminary, to evaluate the role in the spiritual formation of St. Innocent of Irkutsk bishops Benjamin (Bagryanskaya) and Michael (Burdukov). The exhibition also shows the first years of service to St. Innocent on the territory of Russian America.

The exhibition will run until July 27.
