History and culture: "The Lighthouses of the Russian North" exhibition in Arkhangelsk

11 June 2015

“The Lighthouses of the Russian North” opens on June 11, 2015, in the Arkhangelsk Gostinye Dvory (the Guest Yards) Historical and Architectural Complex.

The first exhibition was presented to the public in the spring of 2015 in St. Petersburg at the exhibition hall of the Museum of World Ocean — the "Krasin" icebreaker.

The exhibition at the Gostinye Dvory presents miniature models of lighthouses, contemporary photographs of the beacons located on the White, Barents, Baltic Seas and Ladoga Lake — the unique material created by photographers in many sketching trips and expeditions during a period of 2011-2014.

An important part of the exhibition belongs to historical postcards and items of XIX-XX centuries, among which are the rarest cards of "Our North", as well as modern lighthouse mail — the postcards, stamps and accompanying postmarks, created by the artists of the "Nature of Russia" Arts and Adventure Club.

In Arkhangelsk the exhibition is presented in the updated and seriously expanded form with about 50 new exhibits, which were added to all sections of the exhibition without exception. The visitors of the Gostinye Dvory’s will see the new dioramas and models of lighthouses, watercolor and photography. In addition, for the first time this project will be led with audio guide system, which will get a full impression of the exhibition.

The "Lighthouses of the Russian North" exhibition will work at the Gostinye Dvory until September 1.
