
Museums of Russia: The museum complex “House of Peter I” opened in Derbent
The museum complex “House of Peter I”, based on the place where during the Persian campaign Russian emperor stopped, began work in Derbent (Republic of Dagestan).
The basic object of the museum is a restored pavilion colonnade, built in the early XIX century over the dugout in which Peter I stayed during the Persian campaign. According to historical evidence, the front of the pavilion were two guns, the object is constantly guarded by sentries. Above the entrance to the pavilion was attached the following inscription: “Resting place of Emperor Peter the Great”.
Other objects of the museum will become a monument to Peter I and the building with an exhibition of objects of Peter's era.
In autumn the republic will host festive events dedicated to the 2000th anniversary of Derbent, one of the oldest cities in the Russian Federation. At the moment it is completed the restoration of the monuments of ancient culture - the most ancient mosque in Russia and one of the oldest in the world Juma-mosque as well as the fortress Naryn-Kala.
