Information technology and libraries: The Russian State Library expands electronic fund
The next stage of digitization of books for the Russian State Library of Arts (RGBI) is completed. Now, even more rare editions from the funds of RGBI will be available in electronic format for a wide audience of users.
At the end of the next stage by ELAR Corporation in electronic form it was transferred to the books, dating from 1750-1981, dedicated to painting, icon painting, sculpture, theater and architecture, including English, French, German and Italian. In particular, it has been digitized a monograph by Pietro Rossini «Il Mercurio Errante» - the edition 1750 with a damaged binding and spine partially torn sheets. To ensure the safety of shabby vintage contactless digitization of primary sources was made a planetary scanner ELAR PlanScan Series S.
"While the digitized publications are available only in our reading room, but in the current year will be adopted an access to them via the Internet. Of course, this applies only to those publications, which are not subject to restrictions related to copyright", - noted I. A. Vaganova, Deputy CIO of RGBI.
Russian State Library of Arts is the main repository of domestic and foreign literature about the theater, music, ballet, cinema, drama, visual arts, architecture, ethnography, costume. Funds of RGBI have about 2 million books including priceless collection of pre-revolutionary collections of the Maly Theatre, the library of the Moscow Society of Dramatists and Composers.
