History of Russia abroad: The opening of the historical and documentary exhibition “Grimaldi and the Romanovs. Three Centuries of History (XVII-XX)” in Monaco

July 9 at the premises of the library of the Prince's Palace of Monaco was inaugurated the historical and documentary exhibition "Grimaldi and the Romanovs. Three Centuries of History (XVII-XX)". The exhibition is held within the framework of the Year of Russia in Monaco, the decision of which was taken in October 2013 during the state visit of Prince Albert II of Moscow. 

The exhibition includes original documents from the funds GARF RGADA about the relationship between the Romanov dynasty and Grimaldi. There is the list (kind of a diplomatic report) of the Russian Embassy in 1662-1663, which contains the recording clerk by Yuri Nikiforov on April 3, 1663 about the visit of the Principality of Monaco and the reception at the Prince Louis Grimaldi Russian diplomatic representation. Diary of Nicholas II with a record of 8 June 1913 of the visit to Russia of the Reigning Prince of Monaco Albert I in connection with the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty.

The features never exhibited album amateur photos of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna during her stay in Monte Carlo in 1898.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Prince of Monaco Albert II.

The ceremony included head of the Federal Archival Agency A. N. Artizov (text of the speech is enclosed), who spoke about the long-standing relations between Russia and Monaco, on the stored documents in Russian archives that reveal the history of these relations.

A. N. Artizov gave the Archive of the Prince's Palace a nautical chart of one of the expeditions of the famous scientist, oceanography and hydrometeorology Prince Albert I and a number of related documents from the Russian archives.
