History and culture: The exhibition of illustrations by Marc Chagall to the Bible is held in Moscow
The exhibition of lithographs by Marc Chagall "Message of Light", dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the artist, is opened in Moscow Must ART Gallery until August 31, 2015.
The exhibition presents a series of biblical scenes by Marc Chagall - 24 colored lithographs. This is the second part of the paintings on biblical theme, published in 1960. Lithographs are in private German collection, but in connection with the anniversary of the artist are on display in Moscow.
For the first time Chagall received an order for a series of etchings (engraving on copper or zinc) to the Bible in the 20s of the XX century. Then the artist for two months traveled to the holy places in Palestine, to visit Tel Aviv, on his return, he went to work. Back to the biblical theme he returned only after the Second World War. By the time in America he learned color lithography technique.
