Society and culture: Auto lithographs of B. M. Kustodiev presented to the Astrakhan Picture Gallery

The collection of the P. M. Dogadin Astrakhan Picture Gallery was supplemented with graphic works of Russian artists - Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev. In August, it received 13 lithographs in the cover of the album by B. M. Kustodiev "Sixteen auto lithographs" donated by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota (USA) Michael Shifman.

The album "Sixteen auto lithographs" by B. M. Kustodiev are made in the technique of lithography (auto lithography), was published in 1921 by the Committee to popularize art books and entered the golden fund of Russian Fine publications.

In summer and autumn of 1921, the artist, fascinated by his new technique of lithography and "assess the effect of airiness and picturesque that it gives" in Staraya Russa creates a series of drawings, later formed the basis of the album "Sixteen auto lithographs". However, some lists were based on more pre-revolutionary paintings by Kustodiev ("Tavern" in 1916 and "Bishop", 1917).

The publication includes 14 lithographs, as well as the title page and table of contents sheet decorated with vignettes plot - it was auto lithographed with the direct participation of the artist. A folder with lithographs was published in the 15th State Printing format Sm. Folio on heavy laid paper, and later called "The pinnacle of Soviet Graphics", and in 1922 successfully exhibited at the International Book Fair in Florence.
