History and culture: Unique exhibition “Heaven” Onega region” opened in the Kazan Kremlin

August 20, 2015 in the Exhibition Hall "Manege" of the Museum-reserve "Kazan Kremlin" opened a unique exhibition "Heaven" Onega region". Zaonezhie - the historical name of the district of Karelia, including the territory of the Zaonezhie peninsula with adjacent islands in the Lake Onega. This distinctive corner of the Russian North is famous for its monuments of wooden architecture, the masterpieces of which are one of Russia's largest open-air museums "Kizhi". Along with famous monuments the Museum-Reserve holds a rare collection of ceiling icons executed in the XVII - XIX centuries. These paintings were made for Zaonezhye churches and chapels on some iconic billboards, and then gathered in the dome shaped ceiling, called "heaven".

Forces by conservators, scientists and architects of the Museum-Reserve "Kizhi" managed to retain "heaven", found in most temples in disrepair. Now ceiling decoration of ten hours Zaonezhye is available to the residents and guests of Kazan.
