Information technology and museums: New technologies are introduced in the museums of Arkhangelsk Region

17 August 2015

Navigation systems and audio guides, information kiosks and virtual tours of the exposition halls - modern technology in the state museums of Arkhangelsk region are designed to make visits more accessible and comfortable.

One of the major innovations in the Arkhangelsk Museum of local history was the appearance of a navigation system, which will help visitors to easily navigate in the space of the museum. In the entrance area there is an electronic navigation plan of the complex with a brief description of current and temporary exhibitions.

The booking system is also automated: in a special terminal you can purchase tickets to all the exhibition halls.

To learn more about the museum collections, visitors are offered audio guides. Excursions to the Novodvinsk fortress and historical walks along the waterfront of the Northern Dvina are now held using radio guides and all the attractions can be studied in great detail with binoculars.

Those who cannot visit the museums have an opportunity to visit their virtual expositions.

Recently, the website of Solvychegodsk History and Art Museum offered a virtual tour of the main exhibitions. And this is only the beginning of a great work: the museum plans to display certain exhibits in high quality.

Such virtual tours are provided on the web sites of the State Museum Association "Art Culture of the Russian North", the Arkhangelsk Museum of local history, Kargopol Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Other major cultural institutions of the region also keep pace with the museums. Thus, the web site of the Pomorye Philharmonic provides access to the chamber hall and the famous organ. The web site of the Lomonosov Drama Theatre in Arkhangelsk provides a virtual tour to every corner of the theater.
