
Science and society: International Geographical Olympiad opened in the Tver region
From 11 to 17 August 2015 in Russia, the Tver Region, for the first time is held the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo). It is organized by the International Geographical Union and carried out in 1996. Our country participates in the Olympic Games since 2000. Since 2010, the project is being implemented under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society.
41 teams aspire to the awards of the tournament. The total number of participants is 163 people. All team members - students or high school graduates this year.
For comparison - last year at the Olympics in Krakow (Poland) were represented 35 countries and territories.
In the individual competition is scheduled to play 13 gold, 26 silver and 39 bronze medals.
The opening ceremony of the Olympiad was held on August 11 in the center of the country "Computer" near Tver, where will be held all three major competitive rounds - theoretical (Written Response Test, August 12), Field (Field Work Exercise, 13-14 August) and the media (Multi-media Test, August 15).
One of the most interesting tests will be the field tour the world where students will demonstrate their knowledge in practical geography.
