Memory of Russia: The opening of the monument to soldiers of the First World War took place in Pskov

August 6, 2015 in Pskov were held commemorative events dedicated to the centenary anniversary of the feat of Pskov resident, Russian imperial army lieutenant Vladimir Kotlinsky. In honor of this event on the waterfront of the River Great in Pskov took place the opening of the monument to the soldiers of the First World War - Pskovians.

At the initiative of the Pskov regional branch of the Russian military-historical society, together with the Committee for Culture of the Pskov region and the city of Pskov, "Theatrical concert directorate" of the Pskov region, the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library and the Pskov museum-reserve on August 6 was held a series of commemorative events dedicated to the centenary anniversary of the feat of lieutenant Vladimir Kotlinsky.

Vladimir Karpovich Kotlinsky commanded a 13 company of 226 Regiment Zemlyansky and died on August 6, 1915 during the defense of the fortress of Osowiec, when the Germans used chemical weapons.

The fight got publicist called "attack of the dead" and went down in history as an unprecedented feat committed in inhumane conditions a chemical attack. Lieutenant Kotlinsky was buried near the third serf of the Osovetskyhospital, but later, at the initiative of his mother, reburied in the city of Pskov. September 26, 1916 Vladimir Kotlinsky was awarded posthumously the Order of St. George of the 4th degree.
