History and culture: The exhibition project “Women in the Soviet Union. Monumental sculpture of Leningrad” opened

The exhibition project "Women in the Soviet Union. Monumental sculpture of Leningrad" was opened at the State Museum of Urban Sculpture (St. Petersburg).

Exhibition project completes a trilogy of exhibitions dedicated to the history of Lenin's plan of monumental propaganda. The monumental sculpture of Leningrad female characters do not occur frequently. Most women make up monuments it monuments characters. A smaller part of them - this is a statue erected in memory of the real historical person. The most grandiose symbolic "female" monuments commemorated the Great Patriotic War.

The exhibits are "Women in the Soviet Union. Monumental sculpture of Leningrad" is gallery of monumental "female" images of Leningrad. Visitors will see photos of modern monuments and rare archival photos. Planar model of monumental and decorative sculpture will talk about the tradition of installing monuments in parks. Along with a photo the exhibition space presents the author's models of monuments from the collections of the State Museum of urban Sculpture, telling about the preparatory work for the creation of a monumental sculpture.

The visitor will be able to track which female images in bronze appeared during the Soviet era. After years of restoration it will be presented the sculpture “thrower” (sculptor E. Janson-Manizer) - one of the first women's images appeared in Leningrad (from the collection of the Kirov Gorky Park).

A special part of the exhibition is the history of plaques. For the first time all the plaques set in Leningrad in memory of the outstanding women of the country of the Soviets gathered together.
