
Information technology and libraries: The Library of the future opened in Tikhvin
The automated library “Taffy” was opened in the 88th anniversary of the Leningrad region in Tikhvin. The library is called in honor of the writer and poetess of the XX century Nadezhda Lokvitskaya, who wrote under the pseudonym “Taffy”, some time she lived in Tikhvin.
“In the year of literature we open in Tikhvin not only a library but a new socio-cultural center. The library of the future –is not only a book depository – the library should be an information center to all categories with modern technology: virtual museums, virtual books, sci-fi documentaries and many others”, - said the acting head of the region Alexander Drozdenko.
The center “Taffy” – is a modern automated library with great potential. The additional function of the library is a cultural and leisure activity. The space is built in such a way that almost any room can be used for events. The purpose of the project is the creation of the modern public space, urban city public demand “living room”.
In the premises of the library are created a conference room, a creative workshop, a training room, an art café, a classroom, which will host cultural and recreational activities for the residents of the city, master classes, exhibitions. The library also designed for users with disabilities, visually impaired or hearing impaired.
First visitors will come to the library on September 9.
