
Memory of Russia abroad: Monument to Nikolai Ostrovsky opened in China
Monument to the famous Soviet writer Nikolai Ostrovsky appeared in China. In this country his work "How the Steel Was Tempered" is very popular. The statue, cast in bronze, was established in the territory of the Tsinghua University. The opening ceremony took place on September 22, 2015.
The monument was presented to the Chinese higher educational institution by the Moscow State University. It has become a symbol of cooperation between the two universities, which began last year. During the ceremony, head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Beijing, Andrei Denisov gave the university a multivolume edition "Annals of Ivan the Terrible".
The author of the monument was the famous sculptor Gregory Pototsky. He is also the author of two other sculptures of the Great Russian poet, which are also established in China, - to Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Pushkin.
