Education and society: The Murmansk Arctic State University to be created in Russia

Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov supported the initiative of the governor of the Murmansk region Marina Kovtun on the establishment of the Arctic Murmansk State University.

"The Arctic Murmansk State University allowed combining the logistical and educational resources, improving the overall quality of educational services, and could well become the largest educational center of Russia in the Arctic Circle. This will create conditions to attract, expand the range of educational programs that will enable obtaining knowledge of modern innovation", - said Mr. Kovtun.

It is assumed that the Arctic Murmansk State University will focus on unique resources: more than 600 faculty members and more than 20 aggregated groups of areas of training in higher education. This will create regional "super-university" with the number of students of more than 12 thousand people, covering virtually the entire spectrum of training necessary for the implementation of the Arctic projects.

The government of the Murmansk region created a working group to establish a University of the Arctic. It is expected that the university will allow more efficient using the network of state universities located in the region, and prepare exactly the shots that are needed for the development of the Russian Arctic.
