International events: The exhibition to the 55th establishment anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Laos in Moscow
September 10, 2015 at the State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow) is held the opening of the exhibition “Laotian mosaic”, timed to the 40th anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and Russia and the 55th anniversary of the creation of the Society of Russian-Laotian friendship.
The exposition features 60 exhibits, which give idea of the main tendencies in the development of fine and decorative art of one of the most mysterious states of Southeast Asia The culture of Laos is inextricably linked with Buddhism, which was spread there from the middle of I millennium BC. It was Sakyamuni Buddha who became the main character of the cult of art. Several metal sculptures of Enlightened (XIX-XX centuries) demonstrate the uniqueness of the Laotian style and iconography.
The exhibition features wooden musical instruments (stringed bowed sou, xylophone, harmonica body khen) and household products made of bamboo (a table for a meal, a bowl of fruit, box for cooking rice and etc.). Viewers will also get acquainted with the decorative fabrics, made on a hand loom.
Art metal of Laos is presented at the exhibition with products for offering gifts of Buddhist monks during the holidays (Khan bowl, box tibkhau for rice and etc.). Here are exhibited rare coins.
An important part of "Lao Mosaic" will be contemporary art. A special place in the exhibition is a picture of Rasavong "That Luang" (1962), made in the technique of lacquer painting, which the artist studied in Vietnam. The exhibition is complemented by photographs of diplomatic receptions, visits and meetings of the leaders of Laos and Russia.
