History and culture: The exhibition “Simon Ushakov. Tsar icon-painter of the VII century” in Moscow

The exhibition “Simon Ushakov. Tsar icon-painter of the XVII century” is opened on September 9, 2015 at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow). 

Simon Ushakov (1626-1686) is the most important artists on the history of the Russian art of the XVII century. His name is associated with the birth of the iconographic style, which reflected the innovative nature of the era – the time on the eve of the Petrine reforms.

Ushakov is known not only as a painter, a reformer, but also as a theorist of innovation in the arts.

The exhibition dedicated to the works of Simon Ushakov, is being organized for the first time.

The exposition will allow introducing a multi-faceted personality of the artist in the cultural and historical context of the era, it shows the novelty and features developed by it "live" style of iconography demonstrating the impact that the artist was put on the further development of Russian art.

The exhibition presents works from the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the State Hermitage Museum, the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Kremlin Museums and other public and private collections.
