Memorable dates of Russia: Exhibition “Sholokhov’s eternal light…” timed to the 110th anniversary of birth of the author in Rostov Region

October 30, 2015, the Starocherkassk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve (Rostov Region) will open the exhibition "Sholokhov’s eternal light..." from the collections of the Sholokhov State Museum-Reserve.

The exhibition timed to the 110th anniversary of birth of the writer and the Year of Literature in Russia will introduce visitors to the life and work of Mikhail Sholokhov, as well as the history and traditions of the Cossacks of the Upper Don.

The life of the Don Cossacks was the historical basis for the works of M. Sholokhov, and one of the sections of the exhibition features ethnographic exhibits of the early twentieth century: Cossack men and women clothes, household items and tools, military awards - evidences of military glory of the Cossacks.

Manuscripts, books, letters, photographs tell the history of creation of "And Quiet Flows the Don."

One section is devoted to the original workshop of the writer, the nature, which gave Sholokhov inspiration. Visitors will learn about the writer’s passion for fishing and hunting, see his letters and public statements in defense of nature, feel his reverent attitude to land and homeland.

The global recognition, international significance of Sholokhov's works is highlighted by the major awards and prizes, as well as books in different languages of the world.

Memorabilia of the writer, the little-known photographs and other exhibits from the collections of the Museum-Reserve will also attract visitors.
