International events: "Literature and Culture of Turkey" exhibition in St. Petersburg

The "Literature and Culture of Turkey" exhibition opens on October 27, 2015, in the new building of the National Library (St. Petersburg).

Opening of the exhibition is timed to the "Language and Literature of Turkic Peoples" international scientific conference, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the establishing the Department of Turkish Philology of St. Petersburg State University.

The exhibition presents the publications from the National Library of Russia, telling about literature, art and culture of Turkey from the era of ancient civilizations to the present. Much of the exhibition is devoted to the literature of the Middle Ages, the Modern and Contemporary times.

Among the exhibits is the world's only handbook, which has not lost its relevance for 100 years and still serves the educational purposes on the Eastern Faculty of St. Petersburg State University - "A Masterpiece of Ottoman Literature" Anthology by V. D. Smirnov (St. Petersburg, 1903).

One section is devoted to Turkish poetry. Presented are the pieces of Turkish poets translated to different languages.

Among the exhibits are the books about architecture and art, crafts, education centers, theaters, music and movies of the Sublime Porte.

The most important part of the exhibition filled with the works of staff employee of the Department of Turkic Philology of Eastern Faculty of St. Petersburg State University.

Some of the books are displayed for the first time and belongs to the treasures of the Turkish book fund of the library.

The exhibition will last till November 20.
