World history and culture: Two Vologda objects to enrich the UNESCO World Heritage List

UNESCO World Heritage List will be enriched with two facilities located in the Vologda region. It will include the Cyril-Belozersky Monastery and the natural object - Opoki.

According to the head of the region Oleg Kuvshinnikov, now specialists are preparing all materials and documents necessary for this procedure.

The Cyril Belozersky Monastery for a long time is included in tourist routes. It is located in the town of Kirillov on the shore of Lake Siverskoye and enjoys great popularity. On its territory there are monuments of wooden architecture from different neighborhoods. In addition, the ancient Russian Icon Museum is opened. Also was almost completely preserved the conostasis of the Assumption Cathedral, a modern building, which is a unique fact in the history of Russian art.  

Opoki are only known to rare lovers of travel in nature. Sukhona River in Velikiy Ustyug area for many years exposed High Mountain, consisting of layers of different geological formations. Many of them are hundreds of millions of years.

The governor believes that we cannot allow this natural not to be known by those who come to the region.

Currently, the list of UNESCO includes one Vologda object - an ensemble Ferapontov of the Belozersky Monastery with frescoes by the famous iconographer of the end of the XV - beginning of the XVI centuries Dionysius.
