History and culture: The exhibition “Romantic realism. Soviet painting of 1925-1945” in Moscow

The joint exhibition of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the State Museum and Exhibition Center "ROSIZO" "Romantic realism. Soviet Painting of 1925-1945" was opened at the Central Manezh in Moscow.

"These are 80 masterpieces of the fine arts of direction that used to be called socialist realism", - said the Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky at the opening ceremony.

He said that "many of the works have never before left the building of its museums and its galleries. They look in live quite differently than in the pages of history books and literature, many of which we have seen".

The project brings together a picture of the best Russian collections: the State Tretyakov Gallery, "ROSIZO", the State Russian Museum, the Historical Museum, the State Museum of Oriental Art, the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia and many others.

The exposition includes works by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Alexander Deineka, Apollinaris Gerasimov, Peter Williams, Nicholas Dormidontova, Yuri Pimenov and other major artists of the first half of the XX century.

The works are grouped by themes - the image of the leader, festive demonstrations, rallies, parades, sports events, industrialization and collectivization, sports, aviation, architecture and construction, the Great Patriotic War and the Victory.

The exhibition will run until November 22.
