Society and culture: The exhibition “Technophoto. The Russian Industrial Photograph of the second half of the XIX –early XX century” in Saint-Petersburg

The exhibition "Technophoto. Russian industrial photography of the second half of XIX - early XX centuries" was opened in the Department of Prints of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg). It demonstrates the change in the life of Russia, which began in the second half of the XIX century, associated with the era of industrial development, the technical reconstruction of the country.

Photo is being implemented in the major "order of society", the process of fixing bridges, large factories, the construction of railways and waterways. The photographic series and photo albums are newsreels and documentary genre in photography.

Special places in the exhibition take snapshots of famous photographer from Warsaw K. S. Brandel. Striving for artistic expression, it is completely painted frames reconstruct the history of the construction of Vilnius-Rovno railway, laid in marshland. Another master - A. Demchinsky in a series of photographs immortalized the construction of railways in Polesie. His images vividly and poetically reflect technical objects on the background of nature, beauty and geometric structures of bridges. The exhibition presents the photos devoted to the construction of the Alexander Bridge across the Volga, having a length of 1485 meters, and the Foundry Bridge in St. Petersburg.

One of the sections of the exhibition is devoted to images of factories and plants. Spectacular panoramic views of the shops are equipped with a variety of tools and machines. Finished products of machine-building plants - locomotives, wagons, ships, various mechanisms and details are also reflected in the pictures in the form of albums, now resembling advertising catalogs production.

The exhibition will run until January 23, 2016.
