24 December 2015

The exposition of the new museum on the Kulikovo Field presents a copy of Personal Chronicle of the 16th century. To learn how to create an illustrated manuscript of Old Russian painters is demonstrated in the video.

The exhibit and the video were placed in the section of the exposition dedicated to the monuments of the Kulikovo cycle - written records of battle’s history. In the Illuminated Compiled Chronicle of Ivan the Terrible, we find the earliest miniatures of Mamai battle. The process of creating the manuscript - from the preparation of the sheet and sharpening pens, before the creation of miniatures in color - was captured in the 5 rollers.

For the reconstruction of the page from the chronicles were using special paper, similar to the samples of the 16th century. Tools of calligrapher - also from the Middle Ages: the text was written by a goose feather, and the pattern was executed with a lead pencil.

To recreate the work of medieval artists, the museum specialists were helped by a professional calligrapher from Moscow - Vyacheslav Beloglazov.
