
History and culture: The exhibition, dedicated to the history of caricature in Russia, in Saint-Petersburg
January 21, 2016 in the Korf hall of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) is opened the exhibition "The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors: From the history of domestic cartoons".
The exhibition tells the history of the Russian cartoons, with more than 200 years. The development of Russian cartoons influenced by folk and popular print and European traditions. The rise of domestic satirical graphics is marked by caricature against Napoleon in the Patriotic War of 1812. Caricature of XIX century is developed mainly in the social policy direction in the early XX century, vividly reacted to the revolution of 1905 and 1917, the World War I and the Civil War.
The exhibition presents the popular magazines of the century XIX-XX "Clock", "Spark", "Buzzer", "Satyricon", a satirical magazine that went to the USSR in 1920-1930s. "Crocodile", "Laugher", "Spotlight", "Hippo".
One section is devoted to the cartoon war. Visitors can see paintings by artist Boris Yefimov, Vladimir Galba and Kukryniksy, published in the "Windows of TASS", "Fighting Pencil".
Among post-war magazines readers enjoyed a well-deserved recognition as "Club 12 chairs", bringing together cartoonists headed by Vitaly Peskov on the pages of "Literary newspaper".
Modern caricature at the exhibition is presented by albums: "Caricature of 2001-2005. The best cartoons from the year "Samokhval'' (2005), "Felt pen out of regulation. Congress of People's Deputies" (1992), the favorite artists: the album initiations of friendly cartoons and epigrams (2013) and others.
The exhibition will run until February 25.
