Exhibitions: Sketches of outstanding Russian artists are presented at the exhibition “Images of the Theatre Scene” in Moscow

The Memorial Manor of Fedor Chaliapin (Moscow) hosts the exhibition "Images of the Theater Scene", which presents the sketches of scenery and costumes of prominent Russian artists to opera performances from different years from funds of the M. I. Glinka Russian Museum Association of Musical Culture.

The exposition - works by Konstantin Korovin, Ivan Bilibin, Nicholas Roerich, Alexander Benois, and the creation of outstanding artists of subsequent generations. The opening of this exhibition in the Memorial estate of Feodor Chaliapin is not by chance. The name of the great artist is associated to great changes in understanding of opera, which, as noted by Chaliapin, "must be connected to the five arts: Poetry, Painting, Music, Sculpture and Architecture".

The exhibition opens a section devoted to the works of artists Konstantin Korovin and Alexander Golovin. It is demonstrated sketches and costume designs by Konstantin Korovin for the opera "Prince Igor", "Ruslan and Lyudmila", "The Golden Cockerel", "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" and others. Visitors will see sketches of monumental picturesque scenery by Alexander Golovin for productions of "Ruslan and Lyudmila" "The Firebird", "Sadko".

Of particular interest are the costumes for the roles of Feodor Chaliapin in the performances of "Boris Godunov," "Mephisto", "Prince Igor", "Mermaid". Their creators – K. Korovin, A. Golovin, N. Roerich, A. Benois.

Presenting the best pages of Russian scenography, this exhibition is a sort of "guide" for the artistic styles: in the works by I. Bilibin, N. Roerich, M. Dobuzhinsky, A. Benoit reflected modern and Russian Lubok, impressionism, symbolism, constructivism. The exposition halls of the second floor is mainly dedicated to the works of Fyodor Fedorovsky - the legendary artist of the Bolshoi Theater, the master design of "big" epic performances, the author of the model of ruby ​​stars on the Kremlin towers. Here are the sketches of Fedorovsky to the opera "Prince Igor", "Ivan Susanin", "Boris Godunov", "Khovanshchina", "The Maid of Pskov". 

The exhibition is continued with effective, solar sketches of scenery for plays by Marina Sokolova to "Sadko" and "Falcon"; majestic, colorful decorations of V. Ryndin to the opera "The Maid of Pskov" and "The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya". In the halls of the first floor is deployed installation, representing the theater behind the scenes.

The exhibition runs until March 25, 2016.
