
Libraries of Russia: The 202nd anniversary of the Opening Day of the Imperial Public Library is celebrated
January 14, 1814 in St. Petersburg was opened for readers the Imperial Public Library, now the National Library of Russia. By tradition, each year the NLR is celebrating this event.
January 14, 2016 in the new building of the National Library of Russia is opened a book exhibition "Given to the National Library of Russia".
The exhibition features 300 of the most valuable books, received as a gift to the NLR in 2015. Just last year, NLR received 10,967 publications. This was the offering of world-famous museums, libraries overseas, consulates, various agencies as well as individual authors and publishers.
Also on January 14 in the New building of NLR is held a conference "Innovative projects of the National Library of Russia".
As part of the conference will be featured unique Russian Internet projects of NLR revealing in an accessible form a rich local history and literary resources of Russia.
There will be submitted to the online guide called "Russian literary world", telling about writers, literary monuments and memorial places of the region, about the events in Russian libraries, museums and literary clubs; electronic encyclopedia of Russian regions "All Russia", which contains valuable materials collected by Russian regional encyclopaedists in the national information space; Internet resource "Russian autographs. Monuments of Russian letters in the collections of the National Library of Russia".
Further, in the New building of the NLR will be open the exhibition "Library - the center of gravity of knowledge. Library of Alexandria in Cairo and NLR in St. Petersburg - parallel architecture".
The exhibition will present graphics and computer reconstruction of the building of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, built in the IV century BC and sketches of architect Vladimir Shcherbina - the author of the architectural design of the new building of National Library of Russia in the Moscow avenue.
The National Library of Russia takes pride of place among the national libraries in the world for its history, unique collections of manuscripts and printed documents in all languages of the world. Its rich fund is available to a wider audience.
