Russian regions: The exhibition, dedicated to the history of Konigsberg, in Kaliningrad

The exhibition ""Prussian Moscow" through the eyes of contemporaries" was opened in Kaliningrad History and Art Museum. That's in his essay "Walking abroad" in 1821 historian and publicist Pavel Sumarokov describes "extensive, having remnants of the ancient" city on the River Pregel. The exhibition gives an opportunity to see Konigsberg of the XVIII-XIX centuries through the eyes of Russian travelers. The exhibition features more than 500 authentic historical items from the collections of the oldest museum in the region. Many of them are shown for the first time. The works of fine and decorative art, antique furniture, old books, maps, musical instruments, household items, clothing and jewelry citizens create images of the past, barely visible in the contours of the modern city.

At the exhibition the museum visitors will be able to take a walk through the old town. Before the pilgrims of the XXI century will appear: Alshtadtsky market and post office, the Albertina and the Cathedral, the Royal Castle and the halls of the legendary restaurant "Blutgericht", a music room and a cozy living room of the venerable burgher. Also the exposition tells about the traditions of New Year celebrations in East Prussia.

Unique Numismatic Collection will become a portrait gallery of the rulers of Prussia Thaler, pennies and stamps. Interestingly, in this series, you can see the coin 6 pennies of 1761, which depicted on the obverse of the Empress Elizabeth. During the Seven Years' War in the period from 1758 to 1762 Konigsberg was part of the Russian Empire. To see how over the centuries changed its appearance "Prussian Moscow" will be possible by using the map of the XVII - beginning of XX centuries.

The exhibition will run until the end of 2016.
