Libraries and Society: "Rumyantsev Readings 2016" International Scientific and Practical Conference in the Russian State Library

"Rumyantsev Readings - 2016" International Scientific-practical Conference will be held on April 12-13, 2016, the Russian State Library (Moscow). The purpose of the conference is to draw attention to the libraries functioning at the current stage, to their role in the implementation of the state cultural policy; to contribute suggestions on the ways of the innovative development and cooperation between the institutions of culture, education and science.

The issues for discussion:

- Library science and the library for science;

- Scientific and methodological work of the libraries: realities and prospects;

- Library staff members training. The responsibility of universities and libraries;

- Preservation and restoration of library collections in the XXI century;

- The National Electronic Library in library system of Russia;

- Library in the information society. Surroundings, forming a library, and a library, forming an environment. New mechanisms of the transmission of knowledge;

- The study of libraries’ holdings and collections as a cultural heritage.

A wide range of issues on the theory and practice of book and library science, bibliography, a history of manuscripts and printed books, a history of the libraries and of the building of the libraries holdings will also be reviewed at the conference.

The conference will take place in the form of plenary sessions, the sections’ meetings and the round tables. Following events will be held within the framework of "Rumyantsev Readings": an international round table dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the CIS entitled “Library Education in CIS countries: Trends and Prospects”; the "Electronic Library in the Context of Library Activities: State of the Standardization" round table of RLA Section on building the library holdings; before session meeting of the 32nd Section of the RLA on Library Management and Marketing entitled the "Effective Management of the Library: Problems and Solutions".

The experts of libraries, archives, museums, universities, research institutes, the publishers, the representatives of government agencies and public organizations are invited to participate this conference.
