History and culture: The New Year exhibition “In the splendor of gold and crystal” in Moscow

On the eve of New Year holidays the State Darwin Museum (Moscow) and the Museum of Christmas toy "Klinsk farmstead" opened a joint exhibition "In the splendor of gold and crystal", which introduces visitors to the history of Soviet and popular Christmas toys and  popular Christmas images.

At the heart of the exhibition - more than 200 Christmas tree decorations of 1930-1960s from the Museum of Christmas toy "Klinsk farmstead", as well as New Year's cards and carnival masks made of papier-mâché from private collections. In the glass of Christmas toys supposedly reflected itself history of the USSR from crimson five-pointed star - the symbol of the new power - to the first space explorers. The exhibition presents  collectible toys of fairytale themes, released to the 120th anniversary of Pushkin, glass watch from the movie "Carnival Night", cotton, glass, "achievements of the national economy" and more. Cheerful eared and tailed heroes of New Year's cards are reminiscent of the remarkable Soviet artist Vladimir Ivanovich Zarubin.

The exhibition run until January 31, 2016.
