Information technology and culture: Documents of the Saint-Petersburg State Theatre Library are digitized

ELAR Corporation has completed the development of digital collections and the preservation of documents from the fund of the St. Petersburg State Theatre Library.

The St. Petersburg State Theatre Library, one of the oldest Russian book repositories, in 2016 marks the 260th anniversary. Today, its collection numbers about 600 thousand items, including manuscripts, rare and valuable publications, personal archives of theatrical figures, sketches of scenery and costumes for productions, theater programs and posters, rare photos and unique theatrical periodicals.

Specialists of ELAR Corporation converted into electronic form 7 collections from various departments of the library, and created more than 50 thousand images. The work was done with editions of theatrical subjects of the XVIII-XX centuries and a collection of original sketches of theater costumes and decorations, many of which are made by famous artists. The project also digitized archival inventories and a card file of periodicals.

Digital collection, according to representatives of libraries, will be available to readers in the electronic reading room establishment. Users will be able to get acquainted with the unique editions, electronic copies of which are fully reproduced the original layout, as well as the authentic images of graphic materials.
