The III Photo Biennale historical and archival photos from Russian museums and private collections will be opened in the Marble Palace (State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg) on February 25, 2016.
Biennale of historical and archival photos - is a large-scale project for the systematic display of the national picture. Began in 2011 with the I Biennale historical and archival photos, displayed photos of 1860-1940s of the largest collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg, it continued fruitful cooperation with the peripheral museums, archives and private collectors.
As part of these meetings it is focused a vast array of photo papers usually unfamiliar not only the general public but also to professionals. These collections, in addition to works, which are important in the history of Russian photography, often contain anonymous, plain and even amateur photography, but it is in them that is concentrated and manifested the image of a past age.
The III Biennale of historical and archival photographs continues the tradition of the first two exhibitions and re-introduces the general public to inaccessible collections, combining pictures of nine museums and two private collections.
The exhibition of archive photos - is a consistent story about the changes in the social, cultural and everyday life of Russia in the second half of XIX - mid XX century. The wide coverage of the Biennale theme allows touching diverse manifestations of national life.
The exhibition features more than200 photographs.
