Culture and authority: Issues of the development of national literatures of peoples of Russia were discussed at the meeting in Moscow

On the eve of International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated on 21 February, the Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin met with poets, writers, publicists, translators and literary critics. During the meeting, which took place in the cultural and exhibition center "Pashkov House", were discussed the development of national literatures of the peoples of Russia.

Anticipating the discussion, S. Naryshkin stressed the importance of Russian culture to the world's cultural wealth. "We are talking not only about the Russian language, but also dozens of other languages ​​of our multinational state. One of the priorities includes support for national literature through the development of literary translation from national languages ​​into Russian", - he said, recalling that in the XX century much has been done to ensure that talented prose and poetry in the languages ​​of the peoples of the Soviet Union, due to the translation into Russian became the property of the whole reading world.

Today, according to S. Naryshkin, Russia is still rich in original and talented poets and writers writing in their national languages. "They should not become isolated within the national literature, and on the right to enter the golden fund of Russian culture multilingual, - he said. - This is particularly important in the era of globalization, when under threat of extinction is a significant portion of the world's linguistic heritage".

Head of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications Mikhail Seslavinskiy told about the program of support of national literatures. As part of it is planned to revive the schools of literary translation, in charge of the preparation, publication and distribution of anthologies consisting of translations of contemporary works, children's literature and drama Russian people. The project is designed for a phased implementation to 2017.

Participants are encouraged by the fact of the appearance of such a program.

During the meeting it was proposed to revive a number of universities with the translation of the department of national languages, to create the base word for the translation of poetry, to conduct literary and book festivals in the national republics, as well as competitions for young poets.
