History and culture: "In the interiors of the Gnesin House" exhibition in Moscow

21 February 2016

"In the Interiors of Gnesin Houses" exhibition from the museum stock will run in the Memorial Museum-flat of El. F. Gnesina (Moscow) from February 15 to April 10, 2016. Altogether, there are 67 exhibits on this exposition. Among these are basically the photographs depicting the interiors of the Gnesin House.

Since they opened their little school on the 15th of February 1895 in the house, where then settled, Gnesin sisters never thought of theirs lives out of the walls of schools to which they dedicated  their lives. This has left a special impression on the whole atmosphere of the Gnesin House, where classes were held in a warm and an exquisite ambiance inherent for the Gnesin family.

In addition to the accommodation views there are a lot of solo and a few group photos in the interiors of their own rooms (first of all, this applies to Eugenia, Helena and Olga Gnesin): these photographs allow to pursue the changes of the interior arrangement in different years (from 1890 until the end of 1940). Some photos captured an exterior of the buildings.

It is interesting that some hanging on the walls in room interiors pictures, reproductions and photographs could be well seen. A few reproductions of classical sculpture, which once were in the rooms, have survived and now are exposed alongside the photographs. The same applies to a number of medallions. Some drawings bring a bright variety to the exposition - two of them, depicting the interiors of rooms, belong to a hand of an artist E. I. Kamentseva. Special exhibits are the panoramic shots of two rooms belonging to Elena and Olga Gnesin, which were made in the 1940s. Very colorful details of the “interior” exhibition are several old keys, as well as a metronome, which presents in many of the photos taken in the Gnesin House.
