The Presidential Library: New acquisitions
The Presidential Library collection has been enriched with materials provided by the Union of social, cultural and civil society development "Transformation", from a private collection.
New acquisitions are dedicated to the Russian-Japanese War 1904-1905 and the history of Saint-Petersburg.
- Tsushima naval battle
Book Tsushima battle (Saint-Petersburg, 2015) is a reprint (amended), with the publication of the Georgy Borisovich Alexandrovsky, published in New York in 1956, Alexander's edition is the first objective study of the famous naval battle of Tsushima (14 (27) May - 15 (28) May 1905), Russian and Japanese Navy, ended in victory for the latter. Combining the accumulated historical data on their basis the author has restored an objective picture of events and presented the tragedy of Tsushima as it was depicted in memory of its direct participants.
Documentary Dmitry Donskoy. To the glory of the Russian flag (39 min. 09 sec.) tells of the unparalleled transition of the second Pacific squadron of the Russian Imperial Navy and the history of the cruiser "Dmitry Donskoy", its deed in the naval battle of Tsushima when it entered into combat with enemy forces vastly superior and sank, did not come down St. Andrew's naval flag.
The collection Cruiser "Dmitry Donskoy". To the glory of Russian flag! presents the scientific and research work of the participants of the contest dedicated to the heroism of the cruiser "Dmitry Donskoy" in the Tsushima naval battle and the fate of his crew (Saint-Petersburg, 2015).
- A series of books "Russian-German contacts in St. Petersburg’s biography"
The books of historian, head of the German section of the St. Petersburg Association of researchers, the founder of the museum “Germans in Petersburg” by Natalya Ivanova are presented.
Composition of the book Germans in St. Petersburg and the surrounding area (Saint-Petersburg, 1999) covers the individual, but very important for the German community of the city on the Neva layers of culture: the confessional history, demographic and social palette of German public life of St. Petersburg for several centuries.
Book German businessmen in St. Petersburg (XVIII-XX centuries) (Saint-Petersburg, 2002) covers the history of the German enterprise in the industrial process of St. Petersburg (Petrograd) for a period of XVIII-XX centuries and is the first most complete publication, reflecting the contribution of German entrepreneurs - craftsmen, merchants, manufacturers - the establishment and development of the Russian industrial market.
The publication Germans in St. Petersburg province of the XVIII-XX centuries (Saint-Petersburg, 2008) first tells about the history and culture of Germans of St. Petersburg Province.
- A series of books "Tolstoy House"
Books of art culturologists Irina Nikolayevna Kolotilo is presented. Earlier, two books in this series have been published on the portal: Tolstoy's house: fates and people (Saint-Petersburg, 2010), Tolstoy House constellation of names (St. Petersburg, 2011).
Tolstoy House: genius loci (Saint-Petersburg, 2013) - this is the third book of the famous House in St. Petersburg. Tolstoy House - informal but widespread name of the house in St. Petersburg (street Rubinstein 15-17, orFontanka River 54), built in 1910-1912 by order of Major General Count Mikhail Pavlovich Tolstoy architect F. I. Lidval in "Northern Art Nouveau" style.
The book is a collective monograph. It consists of works of different authors, written at different times, allowing a mosaic of stories about the home and its residents, to get a holistic portrait of the Genius of this unique place.
The fourth book Tolstoy House: Apartment-Prince-Chekist (Saint-Petersburg, 2013), the author describes the apartment 359 of Tolstoy House, where lived Prince Mikhailovich Andronikov, who after October 1917 was the head of the Kronstadt VchK. It presents a number of historical figures memories of visits to the apartment chief prince of the royal guard of General A. I. Spiridovich, Archbishop Varnava, "Iron" Felix Dzerzhinsky and other historical figures. A special place is the story of Prince-Chekist relations with Grigory Rasputin. The book contains archival photographs of apartment 359, taken in May 1916 by an outstanding photographer Karl Bulla.
