The Presidential Library: New acquisitions

The Presidential Library collection has been enriched with a digital copy of scores of marches, stored at the Russian Institute of Art History.

The formation of military music in Russia is connected with the organization of a regular army of Peter I. In 1711 a decree was issued on the states regimental bands. Life Guards regiment, founded in 1691 by Peter the Great, was the first which got "moral" march for parades, send to the war and support the soldiers' spirits during the long tedious transitions.

The matter of the Cabinet of manuscripts of the Russian Institute of Art History, which also includes marches, is a music notation unreleased album of 252 sheets of musical recordings marches with the author's litters and blots. The best works in this genre were selected for transfer to the shelves in person by Emperor Nicholas II and had to raise the morale of the Russian army. The album was not released in connection with the beginning of the revolutionary events in the country.

The case contains seven skins (in three versions) and seventeen scores of marches for "Collection…". We present the following options of the drawn and printed publications cover: 1) multicolor painted cover with rich ornamentation, painted two-color cover in a strict schedule; 2) two-color printing with a reduced cover the arms; 3) two-color printing of the real size of the cover, with the publishing sign in the lower right corner: "Lit. Kibbel Theodore S.-P-burg". With pencil and ink litters on the front and back side.

The scores are presented in the following versions: for the brass instruments of the orchestra (the manuscript, black ink, small format); for wind orchestra of mixed composition, including wood (manuscript, large format); for wind orchestra of mixed composition, printing proof (manuscript, black ink, large format).
