Internet and history: The Public Library of New York posted online the images of Perm of the XIX-XX centuries

The website of the Public Library of New York publishes unique archival images, including images of the Ural city of Perm. The freely available are now more than 180 000 digital photographs.

Among the materials that have been posted by the American library includes more than twenty thousand different maps and atlases, thousands of scanned manuscripts and photographs, as well as postcards, musical recordings and other unique relics.

Among the photos placed on the website are presented several images of the city of Perm. All of them were made at the turn of XIX-XX centuries. Also there you can see the coat of arms of Perm in 1903 and drawing with views of the Kama River in the vicinity of Perm, which was established in 1819. We present here an excerpt from the historical books of Andrei Martynov "Picturesque journey from Moscow to the Chinese border", published in 1819. Perm author describes as "originally poor village of barons Stroganoff", which could become the main city of the rich province.
