Society and culture: The exhibition of works by Valentin Serov from the collections of the I. I. Mashkov Museum of Fine Arts

The I. I. Mashkov Volgograd Museum of Fine Arts first shows all the works of Valentin Serov from its funds at the exhibition, which runs until April 1, 2016. The exhibition features a small work of art and one of eight graphic works (etchings and lithographs). Much of the collection enriched the museum with his organization from the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum; one of the etchings - from the collection of the famous Volgograd artist A. I. Borodin; beautiful female portrait was handed over as a part of N. A. Arning- Zaitseva in 1980.

Talent of Valentin Serov found vivid expression in easel and monumental painting, graphic arts, theater and arts and crafts. Genre range of his work includes historical paintings, landscapes, genre sketches, illustrations. But above all, Serov was an outstanding portraitist, he created a vast in number and rare in quality and depth of performance characteristics of contemporary gallery images. Works from Volgograd collection are the mature period of the master, when the portrait becomes the main characteristic of deeper, visual forms and quivering freshness of a live image.
