The Presidential Library: New acquisitions
As part of the cooperation of the Presidential Library with regions the collection Memory of the Great Victory (the section Authority and Society during the Great Patriotic War. The Agitation) has been enriched with 15 posters of the period 1941-1945. The posters were provided by the State Universal Scientific Library of Krasnoyarsk Krai.
During the Great Patriotic War the posters were the main means of agitation and propaganda, they raised an army to attack, support the morale of the soldiers, strengthened the faith of the people in a quick victory. Posters of the war time are divided into two main groups: heroic poster and satirical poster.
Heroic poster
For posters of the heroic group is typical the call to arms to fight for independence. There were depicted scenes of attacks or combats of Soviet soldier with a fascist. Emphasizing the unity of the army and the people, reminding the viewer to the glorious history of our homeland, serving the key to victory, the artists often resorted to a comparison of today's soldiers and military leaders of the past scenes of modern warfare and conditionally allegorical images that symbolize the homeland. From the submitted posters the heroic ones include:
- In defense of the Fatherland!
- Be a hero of the Patriotic War!
- We will give the affection and care to children affected by the fascist barbarians!
- Revenge! Demolish the fascist cannibals!
- Glory to the heroes of the Patriotic War!
- Glory to the heroes of the Patriotic War!
- Vengeance and death to the wicked Germans!
- Glory to the Victorious Motherland!
Satirical poster
A large group of posters of the war years take satirical posters, which main task is to debunk the enemy to convince people of optimism and confidence in the victory. For satirical posters the basis is a plot, witty skits, funny assimilation, and caustic comparison. This group is characterized by exposing the animal posters of the essence of fascism. Nazi atrocities prompted Soviet artists to create a generalized image of the Nazi army in the form of various monsters. From the submitted posters the satirical ones include:
- Cannibal - vegetarian or the two sides of the same coin
- Hitler Cannibal millions of people thrown into the crucible of the global carnage
- Victory of "Goebbels: summary ... and the reality
- Stop! Read the story about how Rus’ was fighting with the enemy, and how…
- What Hitler promises the Slavic people…
In addition, the posters were dedicated to the rear production, the call to conserve resources: All ransacked by a keen eye, every yard and every house!
