
The peoples of the world: "The Congo River. Central African Art from the collection of the Museum on Branly Embankment, Paris" exhibition in Moscow
An exhibition entitled "The Congo River. Central African Art Collection of the Museum on the Branly Embankment, Paris" opens on May 17, 2016, at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow).
The exhibition will show more than 140 items of arts and crafts created by the people living on the territory of modern Gabon, Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The plastic arts, masks, cult objects will show the audience the diversity, on the one hand, and shared cultures and traditions of the peoples inhabiting the valley of the Congo River, on the other hand.
The exposition "The Congo River. Central African Art" will be set in the exhibition halls of the Gallery of Art of European and American Countries of XIX-XX centuries, which means that visitors can get familiar with the art of Africa and at the same time to look in a new way at the pictures of André Derain, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse - the artists who drew inspiration from the works of anonymous artists of different tribes living in the Congo river valley.
