Internet and history: The People’s map of military-historical heritage objects to be created in the Web

People’s map of military and historical heritage objects will be created by Russia's military-historical society (RVIO). On a single portal "Place of Memory" project, launched April 28, 2016, citizens will be able to monitor the status of such objects, and organize voluntary work, said executive director RVIO Vladislav Kononov.

Starting the "Place of Memory" project is timed to the 75th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War.

"Our resource makes it possible to create a social network of concerned citizens who carry out constant monitoring of such sites, arrange voluntary work", - said Kononov. The portal will publish actual pictures of mass graves, monuments, pedestals, memorials.

According to the initiators of the project, any citizen will be able to personally participate in the preservation of military and historical heritage of the country. Users of the portal can capture objects on the map, describe its condition, post photos, videos, initiate clean-up. This work will allow the volunteers to public organizations and authorities in time to restore the monuments and memorials.

In addition, online voting will be conducted and compiled rankings of objects of military and historical heritage.
