In Ulyanovsk, April 29, 2016 at the V. I. Lenin Memorial Museum is opened art and documentary exhibition "Two eras. Two revolutions", dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Karamzin and the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. The basis of the exhibition is the idea of ​​a comparative analysis of two events - the Great French Revolution of the XVIII century and the Great Russian Revolution.  

The Lenin memorial for the first time has become the initiator of a major inter-museum exhibition project, which presents exhibits of the State Historical Museum, the State Museum of Political History of Russia, the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History, regional and municipal museums of the Ulyanovsk region, as well as private collections.

A special role in the materials of the exhibition is given to Nikolay Mikhailovich Karamzin, who witnessed the French Revolution. These assessments have become a link between the two great events of world history.

"In described by Karamzin events of the French Revolution can be found our events of the Russian Revolution without difficulty. Thus came the idea, comparing the facts, documents and exhibits backed, for the first time show the two great historical events from a new point of view in museum practice", - said the candidate of historical sciences, deputy director of the museum activity of Lenin memorial Andrew Pashkin.

The exhibition features unique exhibits of project’s partners: 22 units of authentic graphic works on the French Revolution, which belong to the authorship of famous French artists of the XVIII century, from the collections of Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History. Of particular interest is the allegory of the "French Revolution - the predecessor of the World Revolution". 

The exhibition also features famous photographs of 1917 – 1920s from the collections of the State Museum of Political History of Russia (Saint-Petersburg).

The Ulyanovsk region has become the main venue of events, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Karamzin. The Decree of president of Russia was signed "On the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Karamzin", the Russian government approved the plan of actions, a program of commemorative events for the country in 2016. In the homeland of the famous historiographer and writer during the celebration will be held more than 500 events. Important events will be the All-Russian Karamzin Assembly and the Day of Russia, which was called the Day of the Russian state. To the 250th anniversary of Nikolai Karamzin will be released a commemorative medal, coin and stamp.
