In the year of the 160th anniversary of the State Tretyakov Gallery, viewers will learn more about the personality of its founder Pavel Tretyakov (1832-1898). The exhibition, which includes photographs of the late XIX - early XX century, is devoted to travel by P. M. Tretyakov. Travel is a serious concern for Pavel Mikhailovich: he visited 250 cities in 20 European countries.

The first paintings Tretyakov bought at 24 years. He has not yet formulated a program before the end of the gathering, but realized that it is important to understand the history of styles, personally acquainted with the masterpieces of world art. To do this, Pavel has made more than 30 trips to Europe, and even in the first business when he met with business partners, he found time to visit museums and exhibitions. Selected for the exhibition photos were released in the cities visited by P. M. Tretyakov. They are full of the best European masters.

Pavel regularly visited the world and industrial and art exhibitions in London, Paris, Vienna and Berlin. In these trips Tretyakov often visited these workshops of Russian artists, including making orders to his gallery.

The exhibition features 130 photos of urban species, museums and works of great masters who Tretyakov had seen in his travels. There are shown a few preserved memorabilia and photographs of relatives and friends of Tretyakov, the people with whom he met on or with whom he traveled, as well as magazines and guides of those years.
