To the World Day of Books and Copyright: The exhibition project “Cervantes in Russia. XXI century” in Moscow

April 22, 2016 in the Marble Hall of the Library for Foreign Literature (Moscow) is opened the exhibition project "Cervantes in Russia. XXI Century", prepared jointly by the Library of Foreign Literature and the Cervantes Institute in Moscow as part of the exhibition program "The Artist and the word" and the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the birth of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Opening of a project is timed to coincide with the World Day of Book and Copyright (celebrated on April 23). 

The exhibition project includes two exhibitions which unite artists of international fame. They are the authors of the past, famous illustrators of "Don Quixote" - Dore, Dali, Savva Brodsky and others, and contemporary artists - Alexey Evdokimov and Viktor Apukhtin among creative searches Cervantes occupies a central place.

The exhibition project will introduce the audience with the writer's books in Spanish and Russian from the Library of Foreign Literature and the Cervantes Institute in Moscow, and will present a unique edition of the works of Cervantes. The jewel of the project is one of the first editions of the great book "Don Quixote" in Russian (1803) from a private collection.

The exhibition "Don Quixote - a cure defects" is enriched with the series of illustrations by Victor Apukhtin for the first edition of Cervantes' novel in Spanglish. Author of the translation - Ilan Stavans, essayist, lexicographer, translator, author of short stories and TV-presenter. In 2002, he published in the literary supplement «Cultura/s» (Barcelona) the translation of the first chapter of Cervantes' novel "Don Quixote". In 2016 will be released the full version of the novel with illustrations by Victor Apukhtin.

The exhibition "Cervantes: a knight in the world of art" in the Marble Hall shows sculptures, paintings and drawings of the famous Moscow artist Alexey Evdokimov, who won the love of the Russian and foreign public by his extensive series of works created under the inspiration of the novel by M. de Cervantes "Don Quixote". His works are in private collections around the world, as well as in the collections of the Russian Cultural Foundation, the Cervantes Institute in Moscow, "The Museum of the book" of the Russian State Library and others.

The exhibitors will run until 19 May 2016 in the Marble and Brocade halls of the library.
