Society and book culture: The exhibition “Iranian studies in the mirror of the book” in Moscow

April 19, 2016 in the White Hall of the M. I. Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature (Moscow) is opened a bibliographical exhibition "Iranian Studies in the mirror of the book", prepared in collaboration with the Moscow International Foundation for Iranian Studies, with the support of the Cultural Mission of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Russian Federation.

The purpose of the exhibition - acquaintance of the current generation of readers with the history of Russian Arabic studies and research-Iranists scientists, reflected in their books.

Russian Iran studies as one of the most important areas of Oriental has a long history. Its appearance is connected with the fact that the Russian state for centuries in its geographical position was versatile relations with the countries of the East, including Iran and Central Asia. In diplomatic and trade relations it was necessary to know oriental languages, especially Persian. In studies of the East and, in particular, Iran has played an important role of the Academy of Sciences, founded by in 1724, where in the XVIII century operated two schools where he taught oriental languages, including Persian. Of great importance for the development of Iranian Studies in the XIX - XX centuries was the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages ​​in Moscow. In 1917, Iranian Studies has entered a new phase of its development. It was a difficult and challenging period, however, there was the presence of positive aspects in terms of the creation of institutions and organizations, where the East was studied, and important steps have been taken in the preparation of specialists in the region.
